Betaine HCI serves as a treatment for anemia, diarrhea, excess candida yeast, hay fever and inner ear infections, and can also act as a lipotropic, the Gale Encyclopedia points out, preventing the accumulation of fat in the liver.

Dosage

WorldHealth says that doctors usually administer betaine HCI in dosages ranging from 325 to 650mg, and urge patients to take consume the medication with aprotein meal.

Side Effects

An unusually large dosage of betaine HCI can burn the lining of thestomach, according to WorldHealth. If this occurs, you should discontinue taking the supplement.

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is caused by a lack of the bacterial strain ‘Lactobacillus’ in the intestines. Recent studies have shown that the use of pro-biotic supplements can relieve some of the symptoms associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome by replenishing the gut with these necessary bacteria.
  • ‎Betaine HCL is necessary for adequate absorption of protein, calcium, vitamin B12 and iron. It is also known as hydrochloric acid and stomach acid. The low pH of the stomach’s hydrochloric acid also destroys ingested bacteria and microorganisms.

5 Reasons You Need Vitamin D

Vitamin D is known as the “sunshine vitamin” because the body synthesizes it with exposure to sunlight. This important hormone is used throughout the body, and:

  • Helps to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus.
  • Assists in the absorption of calcium and promotes bone mineralization, which may prevent or slow the progression of osteoporosis.
  • Strengthens the immune system and protects against a number of serious diseases, including rickets and osteomalacia.
  • May provide protection from hypertension, psoriasis and several autoimmune diseases (including multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis).
  • Plays a role in defending against cancer (studies link a deficiency of vitamin D to as many as 18 different cancers).
  • It isn’t easy to get enough vitamin D from your diet alone, though fortified foods (milk and cereals), eggs, salmon, tuna, mackerel and sardines are all good sources. Even if you receive regular sun exposure (for most of us 20-30 minutes a day is adequate), I recommend taking 1,000 IU of vitamin D per day – look for supplements that provide D3 (cholecalciferol) rather than D2 (ergocalciferol).

After about 18 years having IBS without knowing I have begun to research this condition. Here are my notes;

Overview

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) refers to a complex disorder of the lower intestinal tract. It is mainly characterized by a pattern of symptoms that is often worsened by emotional stress.

It is not the same as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Symptoms

Symptoms range from mild to severe, however most people have mild symptoms. IBS symptoms may be worse in patients with underlying stress or mood disorders such as anxiety and depression, but it is important to understand that these conditions do not cause IBS. Symptoms may include:

  • Abdominal distention
  • Abdominal fullness, gas, bloating
  • Abdominal pain or tenderness that:
    • Comes and goes
    • Goes away after a bowel movement
    • Occurs after meals
  • Chronic and frequent constipation, usually accompanied by pain
  • Chronic and frequent diarrhea, usually accompanied by pain
  • Emotional distress
  • Depression
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea and vomiting

Irritable Bowel Syndrome – What Causes It?


Some evidence indicates that the immune system, which fights infection, is also involved. Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms result from the following: The normal motility of the colon may not work properly. It can be spasmodic or can even stop temporarily. Spasms are sudden strong muscle contractions that come and go.

The lining of the colon (epithelium), which is affected by the immune and nervous systems, regulates the passage of fluids in and out of the colon. In Irritable Bowel Syndrome, the epithelium appears to work properly. However, fast movement of the colon’s contents can overcome the absorptive capacity of the colon. The result is too much fluid in the stool. In other patients, colonic movement is too slow, too much fluid is absorbed, and constipation develops.

The colon responds strongly to stimuli (for example, foods or stress) that would not bother most people.

In people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, stress and emotions can strongly affect the colon. It has many nerves that connect it to the brain. Like the heart and the lungs, the colon is partly controlled by the autonomic nervous system, which has been proven to respond to stress. For example, when you are frightened, your heart beats faster, your blood pressure may go up, or you may gasp. The colon responds to stress also. It may contract too much or too little. It may absorb too much water or too little.

Research has shown that very mild or hidden (occult) celiac disease is present in a smaller group of people with symptoms that mimic Irritable Bowel Syndrome. People with celiac disease cannot digest gluten, which is present in wheat, rye, barley, and possibly oats. Foods containing gluten are toxic to these people, and theirimmune system responds by damaging the small intestine. A blood test can determine whether celiac disease is present. (For information about celiac disease, see the Celiac Disease fact sheet from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).)

The following have been associated with a worsening of Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms:

-Large meals
-Bloating from gas in the colon
-Medicines
-Wheat, rye, barley, chocolate, milk products, or alcohol
-Drinks with caffeine, such as coffee, tea, or colas
-Stress, conflict, or emotional upsets
